How To Sew The West Palm Cocktail Dress Free Sewing Pattern:
*SEWING NOTES: Use 1/2″ seam allowance and straight stitch.
Step 1
Pin and sew the dart for the Front Bodice piece and press the dart down.
Step 2
Join the Front skirt and Front Bodice and press the seam open.
Step 3
Join your back piece with the front making sure to line up the notches so that they meet with the seams in the front.

Repeat the same steps for your lining pieces.
Step 5
Join your lining and self right sides together at the neckline. Make sure to drop your needle and pivot your fabric in order to get sharp corners.

Here you’re going to attach your vintage crystal trim. You’re going to want to sandwich your trim in between the lining and self pieces at the hem. Use a zipper foot attachment to get as close as possible to the crystal trim.
Step 7
Now that you’ve attached your lining to the neckline and hem you’re going to want to flip the garment right side out and press.

Step 11
Blind stitch center front together.

Fold in seam allowance and edge stitch.
Step 14
repeat steps to the smaller bow piece.
Step 15
Find the bow shape you like the most and use the smaller bow piece to secure the shape, then blind stitch the edges together.
Step 16
Blind stitch the bow to the bodice at the top and bottom.
Step 17
To complete your garment you’re going to add hook and eyes to the neck closure. First, you’re going to fold back the seam allowance at ½” and edge stitch. Then, you’re going to find the placement for your hook and eyes. You’re going to want to make sure the hook goes on the right side and the eyes go on the left side.

This is so Sharon Tate in Valley of the Dolls, I friggin love it.
This looks like the perfect summer dress. I can’t wait to make it!
How much fabric should I buy if I want to make a long version of this dress?
3 yards.
I love the summer dress.
Could you make this dress with linen? or a heavier cotton fabric?
Yes, you can also make this dress with linen or heavier cotton fabric.
if ive already cut out the pattern, could i still just sew the back together without a zip as i hate working with zips?
Hello, you can avoid the zipper if you are using a stretch fabric.
Hii, I’m confused about what size should I choose?
My size:
Bust: 33.5/34 waist: 28 Hips: 37
Honestly, I would cut out a size 4 or 6. Your waist measurement matches up with a size 8, but your bust and hips match up with a size 4 or 6. If you look at the finished garment measurement, the size 4 would be pretty much perfect for you if you want the dress to be fitted at the waist and hips. If you want it to be a little more loose, then I would go with a size 6.
This was the 5th dress I’ve ever made and I just love how it came out! My friends thought my dress belonged in “Romy & Michelle’s highschool reunion”
