Find Your Perfect Fit
The size guide below is based on the suggested design & wearing ease for this style. You can choose the size according to your desired finished garment measurements, blending between sizes as needed. Measure the printed patterns to make sure the dimensions are according to the desired fitting and adjust—if needed—before cutting the fabric. For best results, sew a test garment in a similar fabric to adjust your pattern.
Note: Measurements may vary after adjustments. If using non-stretch fabrics, reference the approximate finished garment measurements chart to choose your size.
Also note: the skirt waist measurement includes the section that overlaps at the front.
How To Sew the Pirouette Luxe Set
The following instructions are designed to guide you through sewing the Pirouette Luxe Set! Happy Sewing!
Sew with a 1/2″ seam allowance for all seams unless otherwise specified.
Finish all seams with French seams! Follow the French Seam Mood Sewing Tips infographic below.
7 Tips for Sewing with Silk Charmeuse
[Tip #1] Use a Microtex or Sharp Needle: Silk Charmeuse is a delicate fabric that can easily snag. A size 60/8 or 70/10 Microtex needle will glide through the fabric without leaving visible holes.
[Tip #2] Cut with Tissue or a Rotary Cutter: To prevent shifting and ensure precise cuts, lay your silk charmeuse between layers of tissue paper or on a self-healing mat when cutting with a rotary cutter.
[Tip #3] Handle with Clean, Dry Hands: Oils and moisture from your hands can easily stain silk. Always wash your hands thoroughly before handling the fabric, or wear clean cotton gloves for extra care.
[Tip #4] Use a Fine, Short Stitch Length: Set your machine to a short stitch (2.0–2.5 mm) to avoid puckering and create smooth seams on this slippery fabric. Use a high-quality all-purpose thread that matches your fabric.
[Tip #5] Stabilize with Spray Starch or Interfacing: Lightly mist areas that need extra structure, such as necklines or button plackets, with a temporary spray starch or use a lightweight fusible interfacing.
[Tip #6] Pin Sparingly—or Use Clips: For delicate projects, use fine silk pins within the seam allowance to avoid creating holes. Alternatively, consider using fabric clips to hold seams in place.
[Tip #7] Practice French Seams or Narrow Hems: Silk Charmeuse frays easily. Practice techniques like French seams or baby hems to keep the fabric from fraying and give your garment a couture-quality finish.
Step 2
SHOULDER SEAMS
Sew front and back together at the shoulder seams.
Step 3
SIDE SEAMS
Sew front and back together at the side seams.
Step 4
SLEEVES
Sew the sleeve inseam and hem the bottom with a double-folded hem.
Step 5
SET IN SLEEVE
Sew the sleeves to the bodice.
- Baste stitch and gather the crown (upper part of the sleeve).
- Match each sleeve to the correct armhole.
- Sew it around according to the seam allowance (3/4”).
Step 6
ARMHOLE BINDING
Finish the armholes by sewing bias binding around them.
- Fold and press the bias tape seam allowance, (one side only).
- Sew the other side on the armhole (right side to wrong side).
- Trim the seam allowance down to ¼”, fold it in half inwards, and edge stitch it down.
Alternatively, you may finish the armholes using French seams.
Step 7
NECKLINE BINDING
Repeat the same binding technique to finish the edges around the neckline.
Step 8
HEM
Finish the bottom edge of the shirt by sewing a double-folded hem.
Step 9
BUTTONS & BUTTONHOLES
Sew the buttons on one placket and match the buttonholes on the other placket.
Step 10
WRAP SKIRT
- Cut the skirt on the fabric fold as indicated in the pattern.
- Once you have the full skirt piece, cut along one side to open it at the cutting line indicated on the pattern.
Step 11
BOTTOM HEM
- Fold ¼” on the hem of the skirt and press.
- Then fold ½”, press and stitch the hem down 1/8” away from the folded edge.
Step 12
SIDE HEM
Finish the side edges of the skirt with a double-folded hem.
Step 13
WAISTBAND BELT
- Measure the skirt’s waist and mark that measurement at the center of the waistband pieces.
- Place both waistband pieces together with the right sides of the fabric facing inward. Sew all around, but leave open the section marked with the waist measurement.
- Turn the waistband right side out and press. You can trim the excess seam allowance and corners for a cleaner finish.
Step 14
ATTACH WAISTBAND BELT
- Align the open section of the waistband with the center of the skirt’s waist, keeping the right sides together, and sew one layer of the waistband to the waist.(1)
- From the right side of the skirt, position the waistband to cover the previous seam. Fold the seam allowances inward and stitch along the edge to close the waistband.(2)

SO GORGEOUS!! The fabric gives me the best mermaid vibes! I love it so much!
That’s so wonderful to hear! We completely agree, that fabric absolutely delivers those mermaid vibes! So glad you love it! ♀️✨
Excelente dress
We are elated for the feedback, thank you! ✨
I really like that skirt!!!
I have about 2-3 yards of a black (somewhat geometric) chiffon or rayon challis type fabric that I got in a mystery box last year.
It is a tad see through in the light so would I be able to double layer the skirt (maybe with the inner portion longer than the outer to give it a cute ruffled effect)?
Hi Saaranne! We’re glad to hear you like the skirt! Using a featherweight to lightweight fabric such as chiffon or rayon challis should allow you to double layer the skirt—you may wish to grade your seams to keep them for bulking. Adjusting the inner portion to be longer than the outer portion sounds like a very cute adjustment! Let us know how your skirt turns out! Happy Sewing
Could you let me know how much material for top only. Please and thank you!
Hello, 1.5 yards should be enough for the top only in a size small.
I may be missing it, but I only see that four of the seven buttons listed as required are actually used and that’s only in the top. Am I missing where the remaining three go?
Hi Marie! The other three buttons are obscured under the folded edge of the button fly when they are not buttoned together. If you plan on wearing the shirt with the top three buttons open, you don’t have to bother adding them. However, we wanted to give the option to wear the top open or all the way buttoned.
