How to Sew The Ojai Reversible Wide Leg Pants
The instructions provided below are designed to guide you through sewing the Ojai Reversible Wide Leg Pants from start to finish.
3 Tips for Sewing with Polyester Georgette
⇒ Use a sharp, new, size 70 microtex needle to prevent runs and thread pulls in the fabric.
⇒ Press your seams open and flat after every step for a flat and seamless finish.
⇒ Use a rotary cutter and self healing cutting mat to cut out your fabric as precisely as possible. This will make it so that your hems are perfectly even at the end and you won’t be able to see the inner fabric sticking out.

Sew with a 1/2″ seam allowance for all seams unless otherwise specified.
Step 1
CROTCH SEAMS
- NOTE: When following these instructions, make sure you’re always doing ONE COLOR at a time. If the instructions say to put two pieces right sides together, it means two of the same color pieces, unless you want them to be colorblocked and funky. Additionally, the “outer” fabric in this pattern is the white fabric and the “inner” fabric is the blush.
- Place the outer front pants pieces right sides together.
- Place the outer back pants pieces right sides together.
- Pin and sew the crotch seams of both the outer front and back pieces.
- Repeat these steps for the inner pants pieces.
Step 2
SIDE SEAMS & INSEAMS
- Open the pants pieces along the crotch seams to lay them flat.
- Lay the outer front pants piece right sides together on top of the outer back pants piece.
- Pin the sew the front and back pants pieces together at the side seams.
- Pin and sew the front and back pants pieces together at the inseam.
- Repeat these steps for the inner pants pieces.
Step 3
WAISTBANDS
- Place the front waistband piece right sides together on top of the back waistband piece with the outer pants fabric.
- Pin and sew the front waistband to the back waistband at the side seams.
- Press the side seams of the waistband open.
- Place the outer waistband along the waistline of the outer pants, right sides together.
- Pin and sew the waistband to the pants waistline.
- Repeat these steps for the inner waistband.
Step 4
ATTACH WAISTBANDS
- Place the outer pants inside of the inner pants, right sides together.
- Pin and sew the perimeter of the waistbands together to attach the pants to each other at the waist.
- Trim the seam allowance to be ½ inch.
- Flip the pants right sides out so that the right side of the outer fabric is facing out and the right side of the inner fabric is touching the wearer’s skin.
- Press and pin the seam at the top of the waistband.
- Topstitch over the seam at the top of the waistband.
Step 5
ELASTIC
- Cut a piece of elastic that is the length of ½ of your waist measurement.
- Slip the elastic through one of the pant legs between the two layers of the pants until you’re able to reach the waistband.
- Pin one side of the elastic between the two layers at one of the side seams, then pin the other side of the elastic to the other side seam. The elastic should be pinned between the two layers of pants now.
- Sew a stitch in the ditch of the side seam to secure the elastic on both sides.
- Pull the elastic taught from the side seams.
- Place pins along the entire length of the stretched elastic so that when it is unstretched, it scrunches the fabric at the back of the pants.
- Topstitch 3 parallel stitches into the back waistband: one stitch under the elastic to create a casing for it, then two stitches directly on top of the elastic to secure it to the waistband of the pants. Make sure you’re stretching the elastic while you sew.
Step 6
HEMS
- Press a 1 inch fold into the hems of both layers of the pants.
- Press stitch witchery hem tape into the fold of the hem for an invisible hem. Alternatively, you can do a wide straight hem.
