The Lunette Cocktail Dress is the definition of effortless elegance. Made from a luxurious pearl beaded polyester tweed, this piece delivers a high-end look with minimal sewing effort, making it perfect for beginners ready to create something truly special.
With just two pattern pieces, this design keeps construction simple while still offering a beautifully tailored finish. Subtle darts at the bust, front waist, and back waist shape the silhouette, creating a clean, chic structure that elevates an otherwise minimalist design.
The versatility of this dress makes it a wardrobe staple. Wear it on its own to highlight the texture and soft shimmer of the fabric, or layer it over a collared shirt for a polished, styled look. Here, it’s paired with the Cassis Tiered Sleeve Blouse from Mood Sewciety, making it ideal for everything from bridal showers to cocktail hours.
Simple to sew and endlessly wearable, the Lunette Cocktail Dress proves that elevated style doesn’t have to be complicated.

You can also choose the size according to your desired finished garment measurements, blending between sizes as needed. How to Sew The Lunette Cocktail Dress
The instructions provided below are designed to guide you through sewing the Lunette Cocktail Dress from start to finish.
3 Tips for Sewing with Beaded Tweed
⇒ Unfortunately, you’re going to have to cut a lot of the beads off of the tweed. The beads are too big to go under the presser foot when you’re sewing and the fabric will get stuck in your machine. I recommend either smashing the buttons with a mallet and a piece of muslin over the tweed or just cutting them off with tiny pointy scissors.
⇒ Finish your seams with a serger or zigzag stitch. Tweed fabric frays like crazy.
⇒ Iron on medium heat so you don’t melt the polyester.
Pattern Pieces & Fabric Cuts Needed
- (A) BACK
- Fabric – Cut 2 Mirrored
- Lining – Cut 2 Mirrored
- (B) FRONT
- Fabric – Cut 1 on Fold
- Lining – Cut 1 on Fold
Sew with a 1/2″ seam allowance for all seams unless otherwise specified.
Step 1
MAIN FABRIC DARTS
- Using tailor’s chalk or a fabric marker, transfer the darts from the pattern to the main fabric on both the front and back pieces of the dress.
- Carefully remove the beading from the area of fabric inside of and ½ inch around each dart.
- Pin the darts right sides together by folding the fabric until the lines on either side of the dart meet.
- Sew the darts on the front and back of the dress.
- Press the darts flat.
Step 2
LINING DARTS
- Repeat the same process from step 1 on the lining fabric, except you don’t have to remove any beads this time.
Step 3
SIDE & SHOULDER SEAMS
- Remove the beads ½ inch away from the entire perimeter of all 3 pattern pieces so that there is room for sewing.
- Place the back dress pieces right sides together on top of the front dress piece with the shoulders and sides lined up.
- Pin and sew the shoulder and side seams.
- Press the seam open.
- Repeat the same process for the lining.
Step 4
NECKLINE
- Place the lining dress inside of the main fabric dress right sides together.
- Pin the entire necklines of both dresses together.
- Sew the necklines together.
- Clip the rounded edge of the neckline to help it lay flat once you flip the dress right sides out.
- Understitch the lining to the seam allowance.
- Flip the dress right sides out and press the neckline.
Step 5
ARMSCYES
- Reach your hand through the bottom hem of the dress between the main fabric and the lining.
- Grab both the main fabric and lining at the side seam of the armscye.
- Pinch the fabrics so that they are right sides together, then pull them through the bottom hem of the dress.
- Pin where you were pinching the fabric, then pin the rest of the armscye right sides together.
- Sew the armscye right sides together.
- Clip the seam allowance at the armpit.
- Flip the dress right sides out and press the armscye.
- Repeat for the other armscye.
Step 6
ZIPPER
- Flip the dress inside out so that the layers are right sides together.
- Pin the zipper so that it is right sides together with the main fabric and sandwiched between the main fabric and the lining layers at the center back seam of the dress.
- Sew one side of the zipper.
- Flip the dress right sides out.
- Pin the other side of the zipper right sides together with the main fabric on the opposite side of the center back seam.
- Sandwich the zipper between the main fabric and the lining on the other side.
- Sew the other side of the zipper.
- Flip the dress fully right sides out and zip the zipper.
- Press center back seam over the zipper.
Step 7
CENTER BACK SEAM
- Sew the main fabric right sides together at the center back seam.
- Sew the lining fabric right sides together at the center back seam.
- Press both seams open and flat.
Step 8
HEMS
- Sew a double folded ½ inch hem into the lining of the dress.
- Press a 1 inch fold into the hem of the main fabric.
- Press fusible hem tape into the fold to hold them in place invisibly.

And where can I find the pattern for the blouse she’s wearing under the dress?
Hi Renata
Here you have the link to the blouse pattern:

Discrepancy? The line art for the dress shows only vertical darts, but the “Pattern Pieces & Fabric Cuts Needed” shows a horizontal bust dart on front pieces (B).
Thank you for this pattern. Really liking this design and I appreciate the minimalism of just two pattern pieces. (I made the Fawn dress and love it.)
Hi Mona
Thank you for noticing! The pattern pieces are correct, and the illustrations have been updated to include the side bust dart and will be updated in the post soon.
We’re glad you like our patterns—we love the Fawn dress too!
Happy sewing.
love the dress
Quiero el molde 🙂
Excelent
Beautiful
The paper pattern pieces say to cut the back on the fold but the instructions say to cut 2 back pieces.
Will I need to add seam allowance when cutting rhw back prices into 2?
Hi Maxien
Thank you for your comment! The correct way is to cut 2 mirrored pieces. The pattern includes seam allowance. The error is only in the back piece label. We will update it as soon as possible. Good catch!
Can I use Silk Charmeuse or silk twill fabric for this pattern? Also can I add a sleeve to this pattern?
Yes and Yes! I would recommend a silk twill, since I do think this pattern is best suited for a medium weight fabric. For sleeve, though, you can take pretty much any sleeve pattern from any blog post on our website and use that pattern for this dress.
Hi, I love your patterns!
Would it be possible to sew this dress without a lining? I have some heavier cotton in my stash and I would enjoy at least a bit of breathability during hot summer days. I wonder how to finish the neckline and armholes? Thank you!
Hey Nina! Yes, you can make the dress without a lining. If you do, you’ll just need to hem the neckline and arm holes in another way, such as creating a rolled hem.
