Layers are a fashion lover’s best friend. As the sizzling summer heat begins to die down, we can finally plan full outfits again! Whether you’ve stocked up on wardrobe basics or gathered a few of this fall’s hottest trends, you’ll undoubtedly need a few cardigans and jackets to add to the mix. Let’s take a look at some of my favorite free sewing patterns for layering!

For this cardigan above, I mixed two of Mood’s patterns.
I started with the Willow Cardigan as the base and took the sleeves from the Ginger Dress. The result is a fabulously oversized cardigan that I can’t wait to wear with a chunky belt and jeans!

In addition to the Willow shown above, the Hyssop Cardigan would look gorgeous in your closet this season. For something a bit less casual, try the Caladium Trench without the sleeves for a stunning waterfall vest.

What are your favorite kind of layers to wear in the fall?
Im a bit confused we are to print out two pdf patterns and tape together then mix the pieces 🙁
Hi Donna! Yes, for the cardigan up top, I used two different patterns. You can find details and links to the downloads in the materials lists. 🙂
Hey love the patterns!!! I’ve made the cardigan several times and love them all. Can’t wait to try with a differnt sleeve. What did you use around the wrist? Thank you for your beautiful creations and sharing them with us.
Thanks, Mischa! For this one, I just used elastic at the wrist – the white you see at the bottom is actually the wrong side of the fabric. I folded it outward instead of inward because the contrast looked interesting. 🙂
Ooooo I see. So cool. Thank you so so much!!! I will keep that in mind for fabric selection. Yay!! Can’t wait.
