Find Your Perfect Fit
The size guide below is based on the suggested design & wearing ease for this style. You can choose the size according to your desired finished garment measurements, blending between sizes as needed. Measure the printed patterns to make sure the dimensions are according to the desired fitting and adjust—if needed—before cutting the fabric. For best results, sew a test garment in a similar fabric to adjust your pattern.
Note: Measurements may vary after adjustments. If using non-stretch fabrics, reference the approximate finished garment measurements chart to choose your size.

From France, I really love the patterns you offer and all the ideas from your design team — so inspiring! For the past two years, I’ve been admiring your creations, imagining little changes in my mind. Although I’ve been quite tired until now, I’m hoping to try making some of your designs this summer using canvas fabric (…).
Thank you for all your wonderful patterns!
That is great to hear! We hope you continue to enjoy from our free sewing patterns! Happy sewing 🙂
What did you do with the heavy duty snap? I never saw it referenced in the directions; only the button, which wasn’t in the supply list.
Hello, the heavy duty snap button is used for decorative purpose in step 13, but it is not required.
Is it possible to put in pockets? I might make a cargo pocket on the sides, or a welt pocket on the overlay?
You could totally add pockets to this. I think it would look super cute with cargo pockets, welt pockets, or even hidden side seam pockets.
Great pattern – it’s coming together nicely, thank you, the pattern pieces are really well drafted. Two questions: 1) where do I hem the legs? I can only see hemming the front panel 2) step 11 says to sew both sides of the facings – how does this work with the zip and what does step 12 mean by folding the edges? Cheers
Hi Mon, the shorts and skirt should both be hemmed in step 5. This is before the shorts and skirt pieces are sewn together at the side seam. For your second question, only one side of the facings should be sewn together so that the other side can be left open the the zipper closure. Additionally, in order to hide the raw edges of facing at the waist, the two short ends that are not sewn together should be folded inward and then sewn down by the zipper. I hope this answers your question!
I used a heavyweight denim and the shape of the skort is so flattering. Immediately became one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe! I love the high rise, the darts, and the length of the shorts. I’m excited to make it in some different fabrics.
Great pattern, easy to sew. The measurements are off a bit as I believe this is true size. if you are large normally use the large pattern. Other than that It took me a coupof hours to do. I have to adjust the waist as I used xl due to the measurements given, but it was big for my waist. So I made and extra dart on the back. In the future I will make it large instead.
Hi! English is my second language, but I’m afraid I didn’t get step 12: if the facing is sewed on both sides (left and right) and I sew it all around the waistline, how will the zipper open? Thank you!
Hello, the facing pieces get sewn together at the right side, that way the left side is left open and hemmed to give space for the zipper
pienso hacerlo en un simil cuero elastizado asi me ahorro el cierre, pero primero voy a probar con un jean reciclado! Me encanto!!!! muchas gracias saludos desde Bs AS

Love this pattern! It was pretty easy and quick, it probably took me about 4 hours in total including cutting. I used a 1 yard piece of denim that I received in my mood mystery box (1 yard was enough for a size medium). The only thing is that the sizing is slightly off: the measurements put me in a medium, but I definitely should have made a small. I’ll be taking it in by a couple of inches.
It turned out so cute! Thanks Mood!
I’m loving this pattern, we are a group of crafters who get together for chats and have taken on a children’s home and make them all dresses, skirts etc for the girls and shorts etc for the boys. The girls age from 8 years unto 17 years.
can I use XS size for the younger girls 8-10 years please. Thank you
Hey Ann! I’ve used lots of the Mood patterns to make kids clothes. I will usually take their measurements and pick whichever size fits them best, and its usually an XS or S.

Its kind to find free pattern for beginner like me
Hi there
If we make this in a stretchy denim, should we take a size smaller?
Skip the zipper or not? 🙂
Hey Anne, check the finished garment measurements before cutting out the pattern. Since you’re using stretch denim, cut out the pattern size with the finished garment measurements that are closest to or slightly smaller than your own body measurements. That way they will be fitted and tight, assuming that’s your desired fit.
Can’t wait to make this!
