The Palermo Pajamas are soft, stylish, and perfect for unwinding at home!
Stretch ITY jersey brings this design to life by offering unparalleled softness, breathability, and elasticity for unrestricted movement. Its smooth texture drapes beautifully, giving the pajamas a luxurious yet casual feel. The 75% widthwise stretch ensures ultimate flexibility and ease of movement, making it a great choice for lounging. The fabric’s durability means these pajamas can handle frequent washes without losing their shape or softness. If you’re looking for other fabric options, lightweight cotton jersey offers a breezy, natural alternative, while fabrics like silk provide a luxurious feel for those restful nights.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced sewist, sewing the Palermo Pajamas is an enjoyable sewing experience. Use a ballpoint needle (size 75/11 or 80/12) with polyester all-purpose thread to achieve smooth, even seams on a stretchy fabric. A walking foot or stretch stitch can help manage the stretch and ensure precision to prevent puckering. When working with piping, take your time to align the details perfectly, using a zipper foot to create a professional finish that elevates the look of any garment.
For cozy mornings, pair this pajama set with a fluffy robe and slippers to enjoy your coffee in comfort. When winding down after a long day, they’re perfect for relaxing with a book or binge-watching your favorite shows. The shirt can even double as a casual top, styled with jeans or leggings for a chic, laid-back outfit. Choose your favorite color or your preferred print to personalize this look and enjoy the satisfaction of creating a staple loungewear set that’s as practical as it is elegant. Whether you’re treating yourself to a relaxing sewing project or crafting a thoughtful handmade gift, the Palermo Pajamas are ideal for wearing all year-round!

Find Your Perfect Fit
The Palermo Pajamas are a loose fitted set; the size guide below is based on the suggested design & wearing ease for this style. You can choose the size according to your desired finished garment measurements, blending between sizes as needed. And/or measure the printed patterns to make sure the dimensions are according to the desired fitting and adjust—if needed—before cutting the fabric. For best results, sew a test garment in a similar fabric to adjust your pattern.
How To Sew The Palermo Pajamas
Sew with a 1/2″ seam allowance for all seams unless otherwise specified.
Finish all seams and edges with a serger or zig-zag stitch.
Step 1
FRONT POCKET
Create the Front Pocket by joining the Pocket Top to the Pocket pattern, sewing them together with piping in between the seam allowance.
Top stitch across the bottom of the piping to make the pocket lay flat.
Step 2
TOP STITCH THE POCKET
Press 1/2″ seam allowance around all the edges.
Sew the pocket onto the front of the shirt by top stitching around the edges, leaving the top open.
Use a Jean-A-Ma-Jig when sewing over the piping to help the presser foot go over bulky areas without skipping a stitch.

Interface the Front Facing.
Sew the Front Facing to the Front with piping in between, going up to the collar end notch.
Repeat this step to both sides of the Front.

Cordialement.
Camille
Bonjour, pour que nos patrons restent gratuits, ils doivent être imprimés aux formats A4 et lettre.
Just the pattern I’ve been looking for!
I’m, so looking forward to sewing this 😀
I’m thinking of making my set in a cozy flannel I’ve been keeping for such an occasion, but which sadly does not stretch at all – would you recommend shifting size in any way or should I just forge ahead without a care in the world?
Thanks for putting out all these awesome patterns for us!
/J
Hey there, we are so happy you found your *pattern match*! The Palermo Pajamas is adaptable for any fabric suitable for pajamas, meaning the fabric doesn’t need to have stretch since the pattern has enough built-in ease. Go ahead and choose your size according to the finished garment measurements, while considering the body measurements, as the difference between those two measurements is the amount of built-in ease per size. We love posting new patterns! Happy Sewing 🙂
How much fabric would you need to just make the pants of this pattern?
Hello, you would need 2 yards of fabric to make a size small in the pants.
Muchas gracias por dejarme y compartir este patron
De nada, esperamos que lo disfrutes.
Hello, I would like to sew these beautiful pajamas. I am looking on the pattern for the notch at the end of the collar in step 3 and I can’t find it. Can you tell me how many centimeters from the shoulder I can find it? Thank you . Marion
Hello, make a notch on the neckline of the pattern to mark where the collar would end 2 1/2″ inches from the front edge.
Hi, thank you for the pattern. Do you have a sewing instruction video for this? This is difficult to follow through the blog with a single dimension angled pictures and I fear I’ve wasted a whole day putting together the pattern and cutting my fabric for this.
We apologize, but we don’t have a video tutorial for this pattern at the moment. Please have a look on our youtube page for other video tutorials and sewing tips!
would it be possible to make the pattern without the piping or would a there be a better pattern for that?!?
Yes, no problem. You can simply sew this pattern without any piping and still create a beautiful pajama set.
Anna the Tailor has a video tutorial for a very similar (paid) pattern available for free on YT
Thank you for taking the time to create this design and sharing it with all of us! It is greatly appreciated, especially for those of us who are new to sewing and would like to try things like this.
Hello,
In step 3 you say : “Sew the Front Facing to the Front with piping in between, going up to the collar end notch.” But i don’t find what is the collar end notch. I see any marks on the pattern (front ou front facing).
Can you explain ?
Thank you
Hello, create a notch on the neckline marking where the collar ends 2.5 inches from the front edge.
What pages do you need to print to just make the shirt?
Thank you!
Hello! For just the shirt, you will need to print out pages 1-32, 36-38, & 46.
Hello thank you for this cute pattern! But i have a question about pants. Why are there three horizontal lines stacked on top of each other at the waistband ?
Hello, the three horizontal lines represent the fold line and the sewing line to create the elastic casing along with the seam allowance that gets sewn in.
Thank you for the pattern and your helpful replies in the comments! So just to be sure – which of those lines are those to cut in each size?
Her Weronika, the pattern has a size chart on it that tells you which dotted line to cut for each size. If you’re struggling to keep track of the dotted lines, try counting the lines from the inside out. For example, for a size 10, it would be the 7th line from the inside (00, 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10).
Hi, there! Theis guide doesn’t tell you how much elastic to cut for each pattern, and I don’t see an elastic guide on the pattern itself. How long of an elastic piece should be put into the waistband for a size small?
Hi Zoe! Try holding a piece of elastic around your waist while it is slightly stretched. You want it to be tight enough that it can hold up the fabric, but loose enough that its not digging into your waist/stomach.
Hi! I am using adobe acrobat for printing out the right size but it says on all of your PDFs that they are password protected? Please can you share the password so the right size pattern can be printed? Thanks!
Hi Chloe, unfortunately we keep the patterns password protected so that edits cannot be made to the digital patterns. We do this so that they can’t be resold or stolen. We understand that this makes it inconvenient for printing the pattern and cutting out the correct size, but we are considering offering other pattern formats as a paid option in the future. Thank you for this feedback!
Hello! Love this pattern, But Could You make this also for men?
Yes, you can use it for men. I just recommend sizing up.
Hello there
I was wondering if you can use this pattern with a non stretchy fabric
You can, but I would recommend sizing up.
Can you use this pattern with non stretchy fabric?
Yep! You can. I would just make the size associated with the finished garment measurements that match your body instead of the body measurements on the size chart. It may mean you have to size up a size or two.
Is there a way to get the A6 version of this pattern that I can download?
Unfortunately we only offer the print format with the layered pattern sizes, but we really appreciate feedback like this to help us prioritize new additions to the blog in the future.
Thank you
First of all, I have to say big thanks to you for this patterns for free!! I have a little question. Can this pattern be used to make men’s pajamas as well? Is it unisex?
Hey Bo! Yes, you can use this pattern for men’s pajama pants. I just recommend cutting a size up from what you would normally cut, or, just check the finished garment measurements and see which one lines up with your own measurements.
Thanks for a great pattern Moody team. Just wondering how much fabric I would need to make the pyjamas in a small size if my fabric is 112cm wide?
Thanks.
2.5 yards should be sufficient.
Will this pattern work with flannel fabric?
Yes, of course, it would look beautiful in flannel. Just keep in mind that since it’s a heavier fabric, I’d recommend doing a simple hem instead of cuffs on the sleeves and pants. You could also sew a bias strip to mimic the same effect. 🙂
Hi, Iabsolutely love your pyjama patter. It is just what I was looking for.
Do you think it is possible to make the top in a nightgown length from a woven fabric like double gauze?
Hey Sabine! Yes, I think double cotton gauze would be a super soft and cozy fabric choice for some pajamas. Also, if you want to make the top nightgown length, I would just extend the length of it and make sure it is wide enough to fit around the widest part of your body before cutting the fabric.
